Saul Shapiro, Director Emeritus
Saul's training includes materials science (Brown) and management (MIT), but he is happiest as a bricoleur. He designs and builds furniture and is an architecture school drop-out. To pay his bills, he has designed manufacturing processes for microelectronics and fiber optic devices, engaged in business development for Sony, developed broadcast standards at ABC and suffered as COO of an Internet company. At the FCC he managed the rulemaking for digital broadcast. Recently he worked for the NYC Economic Development Corporation on the attraction and retention of media and technology jobs. Saul is currently President of the Metropolitan Television Alliance, leading the efforts of NYC broadcasters to establish facilities for digital, over-the-air transmission.
