Today, we’re featuring Hank Kaminsky, a clay-based and sand casting sculptor originally from New York City. Kaminsky honed his technique at Queens College, the Art Students League, the New School for Social Research, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before settling in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1984. Kaminsky, who is thrilled with his current situation as an artist, states that, “After nearly 50 years making sculpture, I have all the tools I need, an audience that loves my work, and a crew of assistants eager to learn the craft and help me realize the vision.” Today, Kaminsky is widely recognized for his synthesis of spiritual energy and raw organic form. His work adorns thousands of private collections and public spaces.
We asked Hank a few questions about his work….
Who are your biggest influences?
“I have been deeply affected by the works of the figurative masters such as Donatello, Rodin, and the like. The work of the minimalists and sculptors like Pomodorro have given me a lot of incentive to speak my opposing vision.”
What has been your greatest success to date?
“I have enjoyed a well-balanced life with my family and my community and I have created the World Peace Prayer fountain in Fayetteville, Arkansas, my adopted home town.”
Finish this sentence: Art is important because….
“…. it is the way that we define ourselves symbolically.”
Kaminsky encourages you to check out his website for photos of his work. And, if you can make it down to Fayetteville, or any other city where his work is featured (Little Rock, AR, Washington, D.C., and Kresgeville, PA, among others), we encourage you to check out his magnificent works of public art!
