Congrats to Our Micrograntees!!

I’m unsure if everyone noticed, but we revised our grant guidelines a few months ago.  Instead of calling them “Development Grants,” we changed the name to “Microgrants” for numerous reasons.  Check out the info here.

That being said, we’d like to annouce our four grantees for this past round, which closed on June 30th.  We will begin accepting new applications on August 1st for the round ending on December 31st, so feel free to apply beginning this Saturday!

Our four grantees (out of 85 applicants) are:

Rachel Falcone, from Brooklyn, NY, who was awarded $650 to pay her tuition for the Protools Intermediate and Surround Sound Master Classes as part of the audio education program at Harvestworks. Participation in this intermediate/advanced level, two-part audio education program will allow Rachel to gain valuable audio post-production skills and participate in dialogue about storytelling techniques with both professional, multidisciplinary producers and other emerging artists that are a part of the Harvestworks community.

Deena Frank and her company MOTH Aerial Dance, from Brattleboro, VT, was awarded $850 to attend the “At the Crossroads: Dance and Theater” workshop at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater in Blue Lake, CA. The workshop, happening this summer, is taught by Donlin Foreman, a former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company.  On a related note, Dell’Arte is one of Fractured Atlas’ Open Arts Network partners (please note, this had absolutely no bearing on our grant committee’s decision).

Mayumi Ishino, from New York, NY, was awarded $500 to take professional speech training classes with Sandra McKnight of Voice Power Studios in order to develop more authoritative and respectable communication skills when directing and organizing events with collaborators and when marketing herself as a visual/performance artist. As a young, female, minority, immigrant artist, Mayumi finds it essential to improve how she speaks in reference to her work as an artist. These classes will also provide Mayumi the option of incorporating her voice/singing into her work.

Noah Weber, of Astoria, NY, was awarded $1000 to attend the Conductors Retreat at Medomak.  The retreat is an intensive course for conductors taught by Ken Kiesler, one of the most prominent conductors of this generation. The course includes conducting coachings, aural coachings, proper score study, as well as movement analysis in order to make gestures in front of an orchestra most effective.  The retreat takes place in the summer in Washington, Maine.

Congratulations to all!
