New Open Arts Network Partners!!
We’d like to welcome the following organizations to the Open Arts Network:
Fresno Arts Council’s mission is to “enrich peoples’ lives through the arts.” Their purpose is to foster an arts community that recognizes and honors the contributions of its citizens to the arts; advocate to city, county, state and national institutions on issues of concern to local artists; collaborate with community leaders, businesses, corporations, foundations and other arts organizations to bring artists and audiences together. Their programs and services include ArtHop (the equivalent of a gallery walk, but with all types of local arts organizations participating), a public art program, a grant program, and technical assistance workshops for Fresno, CA-based artists and organizations, among others.
The Music Center Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County is what I like to call the Los Angeles equivalent of Lincoln Center or The Kennedy Center. Their amazing houses, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ahmanson Theatre (where I saw Center Theatre Group’s production of the new musical “Minsky’s” earlier this year), the Mark Taper Forum (where I saw CTG’s production of the musical “Parade” a few months ago), and the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall (that I couldn’t get into the last time around because the LA Philharmonic’s new conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, was selling out every show) comprise the Center’s 11-acre campus. The Music Center also serves as an anchor for the Grand Avenue Project, the revitalization of downtown Los Angeles. It serves as the home to the LA Opera, Center Theatre Group, and the LA Philharmonic. Specifically, we’re partnering with the Music Center’s Education & Family Programs, so that we can reach out to many of the teaching artists in the Los Angeles area. The Music Center’s educational vision is for all children to have access to quality, sequential instruction in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. The Music Center’s educational programs currently serve all schools in Los Angeles County — an amazing, incomparable feat.
Finally, Southern Arts Federation, based in Atlanta, is our first regional arts organization to join the Open Arts network. SAF creates partnerships and collaborations; assists in the professional development of artists, arts organizations and arts professionals; presents, promotes and produces Southern arts and cultural programming; and advocates for the arts and arts education. The organization works in partnership with the nine state arts agencies of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Their programs and services include: conferences such as the Performing Arts Exchange, touring exhibitions of Southern art, a traditional arts program that assists folk and traditional artists in the South, the Short Circuit Film Festival, the Southeastern Visual Arts Network that connects artists in the region with one another, and technical assistance/professional development-based services, among others. They also run SouthernArtistry.org — a free, online registry that showcases Southern visual and media artists, writers, performers and arts educators who have been nominated by their state arts agency based on the quality of their work.
Welcome to all three of our new partners!
