Congrats to our Microgrant Recipients!
We are extremely excited to announce our latest round of micrograntees! Fractured Atlas believes strongly in the importance of financial support for an artist’s or organization’s continued training and development so that they can expand their creative and organizational capacity. Our Microgrant program is designed to encourage long-term, strategic development of artistic and/or business skills (i.e., entrepreneurial spirit!). Without further ado, here are this cycle’s grant recipients, in no particular order….
Lee Frisari (Brooklyn, NY) was awarded $1,000 for the purchase of new sound equipment in her rehearsal/recording studio. Lee — an independent musician, songwriter/composer, and teaching artist — currently writes and performs with the band Inner Princess. As her own work has been expanding in recent years, this equipment will allow her to keep up with this growth, as well as to continue work with new genres and musicians.
Yoni Goldstein (Chicago, IL) was awarded $485 for his continued film education. He will be taking an eight-week film directing intensive at Chicago Filmmakers. Currently, Yoni runs Standing Point Productions and is a trained experimental documentarian/non-fiction video artist. Yoni hopes this will help expand his cinematic work into other genres.
Terry Dame of the band Electric Junkyard Gamelan (New York, NY) was awarded $1,000 to participate in a sculptural welding class with Josh Hadar at The Burn Clinic. What does this have to do with music, you ask? Terry is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and instrument inventor/builder. Already a skilled woodworker, she is looking to add another area of expertise to her repertoire, which would allow her to create new, interesting instruments for use in her music.
Richard Audd (Shadow Hills, CA), a member of the Muscogee Creek Indian tribe of Oklahoma, was awarded $430 for the purchase of new computer software and a new keyboard, both of which will allow him to continue recording classical and concert music of Native American composers at no charge. This equipment will help improve RMA Music’s (Richard’s company’s) organizational capacity, as Richard expects to record up to 40 composers’ work.
Amy White Graves of Brooklyn Children’s Theatre (Brooklyn, NY) was awarded $500 for her continued acting education. She will be taking classes at Larry Singer Studios, which will better inform her own acting and which will, in turn, better her abilities as a teaching artist. Amy and Brooklyn Children’s Theatre work extensively with middle and high school students through acting classes and audition preparation.
Congrats to our five micrograntees! If you are interested in learning more about our Microgrant program, we encourage you to check it out! The next deadline is June 30th, 2010!
