Sky/Nova — Live & Archived
You might remember way back in June, Sydney Skybetter and I produced a video interview program called Sky/Nova:15 out of my hotel room at the annual Dance/USA conference. Our little experiment brought together some stellar guests including Eduardo Vilaro (Artistic Director, Ballet Hispanico), Lois Welk (Director, Dance/USA Philadelphia), Robert Battle (Artistic Director Designate, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) and Martin Wechsler (Director of Programming, The Joyce Theater). We had a great deal of fun speaking with all of these cultural movers and shakers — discussing everything from earned revenue streams to famous accordion-playing relatives — and enjoyed showing how inexpensive technologies can help arts organizations connect more effectively with their constituents.
After a summer hiatus, we began filming the program again last week with a blockbuster technology episode (see teaser) featuring Thomas Cott (Director of Marketing, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater & “You’ve Cott Mail”), Lisa Niedermeyer (Project Manager, Virtual Pillow, Jacob’s Pillow) and our very own Adam Huttler. Instead of live streaming every episode we’ve decided it’s logistically simpler to live stream some and record others. We already have a few excerpts from the new episodes on skynova.tv with the full episodes being posted shortly.
Of great excitement for this little program is that we’ve been invited to stream Sky/Nova Live! “Backstage at The Bessies” this coming Monday from New York City’s Symphony Space.
The New York Dance and Performance Awards (a.k.a. The Bessies), are an annual event honoring exceptional choreography, performance, music composition, visual design and others areas of dance and performance. The Bessies debuted in 1983 and were produced for many years by our friends at Dance Theater Workshop. They now are produced by our friends at Dance/NYC, and you can catch Dance/NYC’s new Director, Lane Harwell, talking a bit more about the event on this excerpt from his upcoming Sky/Nova episode.
We’re quite honored to be a part of this event and thrilled that our program will allow people who can’t be there in person to interact with these truly world-class artists. The program will be live streamed on skynova.tv/live complete with webchat, so be thinking of questions for the award winners, presenters and other luminaries in attendance. We’ll also been live tweeting from backstage using #skynova and #bessies.
