There’s been no shortage of protests against the arts bashing in the Senate from the arts community itself in the past few days. But so far I haven’t seen anyone in the mainstream media come to our defense. A few days ago I told you about Senator Coburn’s ludicrous anti-arts amendment to the stimulus bill. Well, I’m sad to report that yesterday the Senate approved the obnoxious and misguided legislation by a wide vote margin of 73-24.

I knew we were in trouble when I read last week’s snarky, misinformed editorial in the Wall Street Journal. In attacking the stimulus bill as a big ol’ pile of pork, the editors at the journal included this gem:
