Beth Soll & Company is returning to the Boston area to perform on March 2

Dance Projects, Inc. presents Beth Soll & Company in an informal performance of the Boston premiere of Soll’s "Black Flower" and the world premiere of "Red Révérence." The performance is on Sunday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Julie Ince Thompson Theatre in the Dance Complex at 536 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square, Cambridge. Admission is $12. Reservations: (212) 927-0476 or sollbeth@hotmail.com

At this performance, Ms. Soll will discuss the creative sources for "Black Flower" and "Red Révérence." Following the discussion, the company will perform both works in their entirety, after which audience members will be given the opportunity to ask questions. A reception will follow the performance.

The title "Black Flower" alludes to the generous, blossoming quality of life and to the experience of difficulty and tragedy. The dance captures the energy and tension inherent in the wanderings of human beings in a world that is simultaneously incomprehensible and familiar. Some parts of the dance are virtuosic and athletic; several other sections are languid and subtle; and still others combine a peaceful quality with exciting wildness. The mercurial quality of the dance is reflected in the evocative music of George Crumb, one of America’s pre-eminent composers. The concert will also include Soll’s new solo, "Red Révérence," performed to the rich music of Marin Marais.

Dancing with Beth Soll in this concert are Erin Ghislin, Lindsey Hedrick, Pearl Marasigan, and Mariah Steele.

About Soll’s work, the critics say:

“Soll. . .is unforgettable – as alert, quick, clear, and delicate as a lark.” – Tobi Tobias, The Village Voice.

“...volatile, thrilling both kinesthetically and spiritually, and altogether magnificent...: -- Christine Temin, The Boston Globe.
