The Sacred Music of Francesca Caccini

The first presentation in the Maria Antonia Project's Voices of Women
(VOW) series is taking place Monday, March 7 from 11:30 am to noon at
the American Bible Society (1865 Broadway [61st St and B'way]). After
Julian Gumbs of ABS opens the service, April Lynn James will begin the presentation.
Entitled "The Sacred Music of Francesca Caccini," Dr. James will speak briefly
about Caccini as a composer and singer at the Medici court, her sacred
music, and her operatic work. She will also talk about the MAP's mission to
"restore operas composed by women to the living repertory," and then
sing Caccini's "Jesu coronoa Virginium." Accompanying Dr. James will be Ms.
Zoe Vandermeer, singer, harpist and composer.
The service is free and open to the public.
