Is it better to make a modest request or to request $1000 and see what I'm awarded?
Modesty is the best policy. Don't try to create extra related expenses so that your request winds up equaling $1000. Granted, if your expense exceeds $1000, it might only be proper to request $1000. But, if your expense is $750, don't try to finagle an extra $250 into your request. We don't have that much money to allot, so those asking for a more modest amount are more likely to be funded.
