  • LISA STRUM on Angela

The Fire This Time would like to present Lisa Strum of Pia Wilson’s “The Flower Thief” now at The Red Room Theatre. Read on to find out more about Lisa and the role she is playing in the show.

Who are you playing in “The Flower Thief?
I’m playing Adult Angela in The Flower Thief. She is a woman driven by suspicions and self doubt. She is married to Clark, the love and pain of her life who she believes is always cheating on her. What she desires most in life is to have a “normal” life filled with babies, a house in a good neighborhood, a dog, dinners in front of the tv, and to be loved and appreciated by her husband.

Do you share any similarities with your character?
Am I similar to Angela? Angela is beautifully human. Flawed. She wants a better life for herself, to have love in her life…to be enough. These are all things that I can identify with.

What is your favorite thing about this piece?
My favorite thing about this piece (other than the sheer brilliance of the writer) is that the characters are so rich and complex. An actor comes to this play with permission to LIVE fully in their humanness: the beauty, the pain, the ugliness, the hope, the love, the disappointment, the longing…it’s a gift to the actor.

What do you love about the theatre?
I love everything about it. I’ve spent most of my life being immersed in it. It’s my soul place.

What is your favorite flower? Why?
I love sun flowers. They just make me smile.

“Director Heidi Grumelot has created a quite [sic] place for the experiences to unfold and allows the natural subtleties of the script to stand on their own – while things of importance are impactful they come with no glaring neon arrow announcing their arrival. Important elements simply wash over the existing surface of the grain of the story creating a richer texture of meaning and emotion with each coat.”

  • Keona Welch on YOUNG ANGELA

The Fire This Time would like to present Keona Welch of Pia Wilson’s “The Flower Thief” now at The Red Room Theatre. Read on to find out more about Keona and the role she is playing in the show.

Tell us about your character in Pia’s play.

Young Angela is a suspicious, do-good-er, virgin. She is sensitive, but doesn’t talk about her feelings. She is private. She’s a true romantic, and likes to break her sandwiches in tiny pieces as she eats them (haha). She is a great listener, and in love with Young Clark. He is the courage and the social-success she wish she had. There’s a lot more about her, but of course, she wouldn’t want to talk about it.
    As deep as a Well.

Do you share any similarities with this character?

Yes. We’re both very sensitive, write poems, and can be very private.

What is your favorite thing about this piece?

It is a great script. And I love the director and cast. I’ve hit a gold-mine.

What is your favorite thing about working in the theatre?

The freedom to truly and absolutely express myself full-heartedly, and no one can tell me I’m wrong.

Do you have a favorite flower? Or a great memory tied to a certain flower?

I don’t have a favorite flower, but I love flowers. There is this one flower this guy gave me once; I don’t know what kind it was, but it often reappears through my head. The memory of it, and it’s story. But all that’s secret.
