Campaigning for Affordable Healthcare

by Adam Natale in Spring 2006

Fractured Atlas has launched a pilot program intended to improve the quality of life for many thousands of artists across the country. The Greater DC Area Health Insurance Awareness Campaign aims to prove that artists are a generally healthy bunch and are therefore an attractive group to insure. After surveying local artists and compiling data provided to us by residents of the Washington, DC area, a public awareness campaign will be aimed at helping increase awareness of healthcare options among the arts community.

Washington, DC was chosen as the epicenter of the Campaign because of its thriving artistic community and relatively manageable size. Sponsored by a $10,000 grant from the Carl M. Freeman Foundation of Montgomery County, Maryland, we are currently in the midst of adding local partners to the program, including The Future of Music Coalition, Olney Theatre Center, Round House Theatre, DC Chapter of the American Composers Forum and Dance/MetroDC (the local branch of Dance/USA). Pending the success of this initiative, Fractured Atlas plans to roll out similar programs in San Francisco, Austin, Chicago and New York.
