Board Profile: Amy Wrzesniewski

by E. James Ford in Spring 2007

Amy Wrzesniewski is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Yale University and is also the Chair of the Fractured Atlas Board of Directors. Her academic research has focused on how people make meaning of their work in challenging contexts.

"There is a great deal of harmony between my research and the work I do with Fractured Atlas," explains Amy. "I study why people see their work as a job, career, or calling, and what the effects of these perspectives have on them and the organizations of which they are a part. Fractured Atlas' members are deeply committed individuals who are pursuing their callings in the arts. They operate under difficult circumstances and face enormous challenges. I can think of no better marriage between the research and the application of what I study than to serve on the board."

With Amy's help and guidance, Fractured Atlas has developed many new programs and services that support the work of its members. But her goals for the organization are even more ambitious. "I want Fractured Atlas to eventually serve all artists through its broader political and grass roots activities," she says. "The Board of Directors is a passionate and dedicated group of people who are invested in the success of emerging artists. Fractured Atlas's mission, its calling, if you will, is to serve those artists."
