Sandy-Affected Artists and Organizations: We'd Like to Help
Although Fractured Atlas is a national organization, our office is in midtown Manhattan and about 40% of our members are in the NYC-area. As such, we've had front row seats for Sandy and its aftermath. Fortunately everyone on our staff is fine, and our office is fully operational. Many of the artists and organizations in our community were not nearly as lucky, however.
While we continue to assess the extent of damage to the field, we wanted to offer something in the way of a rapid response for artists in need. I wish we had the resources to provide direct relief for folks who have suffered damage to their facilities or collections or lost critical revenue due to cancelled performances, but unfortunately we're not equipped to help in that way. Through our fiscal sponsorship program, however, we can at least provide some infrastructure to help our members raise money for relief and recovery.
To that end:
- If you're an artist or organization who suffered damages or financial losses as a result of the storm, Fractured Atlas will provide a free 1-year membership (this normally costs $95 or $195). Just use the discount code "SANDY" when you sign up. (Yes, I'm posting this publicly. Please don't abuse it if it doesn't apply to you.)
- We normally review applications for fiscal sponsorship monthly, but in this case we recognize that faster action is required. For the next 6 weeks, we'll be conducting special rush reviews of new applications for fiscal sponsorship. This is tricky, since by law each project must be approved by our Board of Directors. But at a minimum I'm going to try to get applications reviewed and approved on a weekly basis.
More to come, I hope...
