I'll Say She Is

The first-ever revival of the legendary 1924 Broadway debut of the Marx Brothers.

I'LL SAY SHE IS - Original book and lyrics by Will B. Johnstone - Adapted and expanded by Noah Diamond - Music by Tom Johnstone - Additional music by Alexander Johnstone

Before they made the movies which are their principal legacy, the Marx Brothers were the stars of three Broadway musicals. Two of these, "The Cocoanuts" and "Animal Crackers," became the first two Marx Brothers movies, and they're often revived onstage. But the Brothers' 1924 Broadway debut, "I'll Say She Is," was lost to history.

"I'll Say She Is" was a musical comedy revue about an heiress looking for thrills. It had a book and lyrics by Will B. Johnstone (later to co-write some of the Marx Brothers' best films) and music by his brother Tom Johnstone. It had the beautiful Lotta Miles. And it had seven golden comedy scenes, which established the Marx Brothers as the preeminent jesters of the Jazz Age and the darlings of the New York smart set.

Drawn from multiple sources, Noah Diamond's adaptation of "I'll Say She Is" reconstructs, refines, embellishes, and otherwise grapples with this enigmatic entry in the Marx Brothers canon.
