The Legal Medium: New Encounters of Art and Law

The Legal Medium: New Encounters of Art and Law

On Saturday, February 28, 2015, Yale University will host a major symposium called The Legal Medium: New Encounters of Art and Law. Leading artists and thinkers of our time will gather to engage in a series of panels, presentations, performances, and art exhibits.

Rather than focusing on the practice of art law, this symposium will examine law as an artistic medium, in and from which artists create. It will focus on how artists encounter, take advantage of, and seek to mold law.

We will pursue question such as: How does law serve as material for new artwork—as fabric, process, found object, artifact, or icon? How does law function as a thick context in which art objects are constituted, distributed, and newly understood? How does law shape new art practices and patterns of artistic organization?

Sponsorship is inactive or expired. Fractured Atlas cannot accept donations for the purposes of The Legal Medium: New Encounters of Art and Law at this time.
