The Afterlife of Victor Kamara is the story of a young West African army lieutenant named Victor Kamara and Nick Lawrence, a British/Kenyan journalist. Set in West Africa and suburban Virginia, the story asks whether we can change our destinies in a rapidly globalizing world. Seven years of research and writing went into this novel written by prize-winning journalist Susan Zakin. She is the author of several nonfiction books, including Coyotes and Town Dogs: Earth First! and the Environmental Movement, as well as numerous articles and essays. She holds a master's from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and n MFA in Fiction from The University of Arizona.
